Bespoke e-Learning for public sector client

Business Challenge

The client wanted to introduce an online training offering to retailers as part of an initiative to build better relations between themselves and retailers in the Midlands region. The initiative delivered a new website and LMS, providing retailers with an improved experience. The first area identified for support was age-restricted sales.

  • e-Learning was not provided by the client.

  • Trading Standards Officers could not continue to deliver face-to-face training to retailers.

  • Retailers could not afford to spare staff for off-site training.

  • Training for staff on sales compliance for vapes and nicotine products was ineffective, inaccurate and sometimes not happening.

  • A desire for a course with built-in learning paths for learners new and experienced in age-restricted sales and by job role.

  • An all device-friendly course, chunked into modules, each with a pre-module assessment to determine content to display to the learner. The content was displayed by role and in response to feedback from the assessment.

  • Scenarios provided a safe environment for practising common issues during age-restricted sales and embedding the consequence of poor decision-making.

  • A blend of essential theory and plenty of opportunities to check understanding and find further information.

  • Downloadable guides and tools for retailers to use within the e-learning.

  • Hosted on an LMS for compliance tracking and certification production.

Solution

  • One course which adjusted to the learner and provided a quick confirmation of knowledge via an assessment-only route.

  • Accessible e-learning available on demand for retailers across England and complies with current legislation.

  • Provision of a ‘carrot’ for retailers when they have failed test purchases, to address non-compliance.
